First edition of the classic Scottish adventure set in the aftermath of the 1745 Jacobite uprising, telling the story of the kidnap of David Balfour and his subsequent journey across Scotland on foot, with Alan Breck between 27 June and 25 August 1751, pursued by redcoats. This first issue of Kidnapped contains all three textual points consistent with the first issue, including: the word ‘business’ instead of ‘pleasure’ on page 40 line 11; ‘nine o'clock’ for ‘twelve’ on page 64 line 1; and ‘islands’ for ‘island’ on page 101, lines 10. The publisher's advertisements at rear of book are dated 5.G.4.86 and 5.B.4.86.
