The Earth-Owl and Other Moon People - with - Season Songs - Ted Hughes, R.A. Brandt (illustrator) 1963 - Faber and Faber Limited, London - First Editions A fine pair of magical poetical gatherings.

The Earth-Owl and Other Moon People - wonderful collection of rhyming, playful poems, perhaps not surprisingly written during the ‘lunar race’ of the 1960s, and which Hughes himself describes as an exploration of the ‘moon from the bottom of our dreams’ Hughes’ delightful, macabre, and bizarre ‘moon animals’ are brought to life by the drawings of R. A. Brandt.

Season Songs - A seasonal poetic journal, from ‘Icecrust and Snowflake’ and ‘The Golden Boy’ to ‘Leaves and The Warrior of Winter’.
Ted Hughes was born in Yorkshire in 1930. His first collection of poetry, The Hawk in the Rain was published in 1957, and immediately secured his position as a poet of international stature. It was followed by numerous volumes of poetry and prose for both adults and children. Though now recognized as one of the finest poets of the 20th century, Hughes’ reputation was perhaps unfairly blackened by the suicide of his first wife, poet Sylvia Plath in 1963, and his unpopular decisions regarding Plath’s writings, which he had control of after her death. In 1998 Hughes released Birthday Letters, a collection of poems and prose that intimately portrayed Plath and their marriage; his desire to break his silence surrounding Plath’s death at this time was greatly welcomed. Hughes was appointed Poet Laureate in 1984, a post he held until his death in 1998.
