Reverend Benjamin Couch Henry (1850-1901), one of the founders of Lingnan University, was an American, Princeton educated, Presbyterian missionary who spent 20 years in Southern China. In addition to his missionary work he collected plants including many new species.
  Provenance: H. Caukwell with his contemporary school prize plate, later from the library of the Rev. J. D. Beckwith with his armourial bookplate.

Octavo (book size 19.8x15cm), pp. 511 [1]. Publisher’s pagination includes plates. In publisher’s light brown cloth, spine and front board lettered and illustrated in gilt, black and light blue, top edge tinted brown, plain endpapers (we have seen two binding variants, one in pale mauve cloth with patterned endpapers, and this light brown cloth with plain endpapers, both have same gilt/colour illustrated covers and title page).
  Condition: Very good, toning to spine, and small strip along rear board, minor wear to corners and spine ends, internally there is some offsetting to endpapers else fine.   Ref: 109999   Price: HK$ 3,500
