Doolady, New York - First Editions All eight months of this short lived publication, ‘dedicated to an upscale audience, the magazine promised attention to the “art of good living” and published articles on public banquets and social breakfasts’. Extremely rare, and bound in their original paper wrappers.   This description of The Table comes from an 1872 offer to subscribe:- ‘Devoted exclusively to subjects connected with the Pleasures of the Table, the Science of Cooking, and the Art of Good Living. PLAN AND CHARACTER OF THE WORK: The Table will contain short essays on Breakfasts, Dinners & Teas, Wines, Fruits & Confections, It will have its Breakfast Table Chat, its Dinner Table Talk, and its Tea Table Gossip, Housekeepers and Cooks will find in it recipes for the making of new, rare and savory dishes. A Bill of Fare, appropriate for the season, will appear in each number. Accounts of Public Banquets, Dinner Parties, etc., will be recorded in its pages. The form of The Table will be a large octavo, twenty pages to each number.’

Robert Barry Coffin, American author [1826-86]. In 1858 succeeded T. born Aldrich as assistant editor of the " Home Journal," to which he had contributed since 1849, becoming at the same time art critic for the "Evening Post." He was appointed a clerk in the auditor's department of the New York custom-house in April, 1863, and retained the office till the winter before his death, with the exception of the years from 1869 till 1875. He edited "The Table," a monthly publication devoted to gastronomy, in 1873, and from 1882 till 1886 contributed regularly on the same subject to the "Caterer," a Philadelphia magazine. Mr. Coffin's humorous sketches, published in various periodicals over the signature of " Barry Gray," have been widely read.
