  The Table is dedicated to the Delmonico family, Filippini was chef at Delmonico's restaurant in New York during the mid to late 1800s. A hand-written copy of Filippini's dedication letter, and correspondence to Charles Delmonico, features at the front of this edition

Originally from Switzerland, Filippini was first hired by Lorenzo Delmonico in 1849, and would go on to work at the famed New York establishment for almost forty years. When he retired in 1888, Filippini dedicated himself to writing cookbooks. His cookbooks were some of the first to give precise measurements; previously, most cookbook measurements were imprecise or inaccurate.
