1999-2008 - Bloomsbury, London - All First Deluxe Editions, First Printing, in Deluxe Bindings, with the three supplemental works
Harry Potter's award-winning wizarding adventures have had an unrivalled impact in popular culture today; indeed, some experts have referred to adults between the ages of roughly 20-30 years old as 'the Harry Potter generation'.
Presented here is a complete, unique, and fine, seven volume set of first printings of the deluxe edition, together with first editions of the three additional Harry Potter works - Quidditch Through the Ages; Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them; and The Tales of Beedle The Bard for which a bespoke clamshell case has been made to match the set.
‘The Philosopher's Stone’ is signed by the artist Thomas Taylor who produced the iconic artwork for the cover which launched the series. Harry Potter is a series of many genres, including fantasy, bildungsroman, and the British school story (which includes elements of mystery, thriller, adventure, and romance). According to Rowling, the main theme of the books is death – although prejudice, corruption, and madness can be seen as dominant motifs.
The deluxe issue is a larger format, in decorative cloth binding. The first two volumes, Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets were published as deluxe editions in 1999, after which the remaining five are first editions (as stated on the copyright pages) published simultaneously with the trade editions. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them; Quidditch Through the Ages; and The Tales of Beedle the Bard are all first editions.
Seven octavo volumes (book size 16.3x24cm), in the publisher’s harlequin cloth, with gilt decoration, illustrations to upper covers, and all edges gilt; ‘Beedle the Bard’ - small octavo (book size 18.4x13.3cm), in publisher’s illustrated boards; ‘Quidditch’ and ‘Fantastic Beasts’ in publisher’s thin paperback covers (book size 17.9x11.2cm). Condition: Fine, as new. Ref: 111499 Price: HK$ 45,000
