This small, rare and detailed work by the Rev. John Entick (1713-73), was published in 1765 and is dedicated to James Stewart, Grand Master Mason of Scotland.
Included to the rear is a ‘List of all the Regular Lodges in Scotland’. Provenance: Foster (details to front pastedown) of the ‘Old White Hart’, Sleaford, Lincolnshire, which dates back to the early 14th century and was demolished in the early 1800’s, it was also where the Hope Lodge No 423 (est. 1818) first met; George Bellamy (ink name to front pastedown) dated 1846; Thomas Taylor (front-free endpaper) dated 1872; Ann St.[?] (front-free endpaper), no date
Small quarto (binding size 17.7x10.8cm), pp. viii 279. Front blank, and rear free-endpaper neatly excised. Contemporary binding of full mottled tan sheepskin, spine with raised bands and gilt decoration, red morocco title label lettered in ruled in gilt. Condition: Very good, toning to edges, heavier to prelims, front blank, and rear free-endpaper neatly excised, rubbing and wear to binding, more so to corners and spine ends, with some loss.
