Baxter describes the Japanese siege and capture of Hong Kong (pages 1-19), his five month internment (pages 20-41)and then being shipped by the Japanese via Saigon, Singapore and Sumatra, before crossing the Indian Ocean to the port of Maputo in Mozambique (formerly Laurenco Marques), where a prisoner exchange took place and he was transferred to a U.S. vessel for the final leg to New York.
