The Spy Who Came in From the Cold. Containing the first two le Carré novels: Call For The Dead (1961) introduced both Le Carré and George Smiley to the world, and in A Murder of Quality (1962) Smiley is retired from the Secret Intelligence Service over events that occurred in Call for the Dead. He then gets a request for help from a wartime colleague, a Miss Ailsa Brimley, who runs a small newspaper and who gets a letter from a female subscriber predicting her own murder.
