A fine copy of one of the greatest illustrated dog books of all time, limited to 750 copies, with a signed original etched frontispiece of a Scottish Terrier puppy, entitled “Hello There!” which was prepared especially for this edition.

75 full page collotype plates after Kirmse's etchings of dogs, many images of her famous Scotties, other breeds include West Highland White, Irish Terrier, Greyhound, Wire Hair Fox Terrier, English Setter, Pointer, Schnauzer, Collie, Pekingese, Great Dane, Chow Chow.

This book is the first collection of Kirmse's work. ‘The subjects include over twenty different breeds of dogs, which were selected not only to show the rise of a young and unknown artist to heights of success which she never imagined, but also to provide an interesting and enjoyable record of the canine world’.

Landscape Art Past and Present - Harriet Hammond McCormick

A finely bound copy of this wonderful work, by the indomitable Harriet Hammond McCormick, housed in a custom made clamshell case.

Published posthumously, and as explained by her husband Cyrus McCormick in the introduction, ‘
“Landscape Art Past and Present’was written by Mrs. McCormick for a meeting of the Friday Club of Chicago in February 1899’’. To the illustrations that were originally used there have been added those of ancient and modern landscapes; and a number of pictures of Walden, which was the McCormick’s home at Lake Forest. The 56 photogravure plates, and accompanying text describe such places as the hanging gardens of Babylon; Temple gardens of Edfu, Egypt; gardens of Villa Castello, Florence; Pope’s garden, Twickenham; Gardens of Versailles; the garden of “Resht-i-Behesht,” Shiraz, Persia, and numerous images of Walden itself.

An appropriate memorial to a reform-era leader of great stature’ - Arthur Miller, Lake Forest College.

Dulac uses techniques borrowed from Persian manuscripts, such as overwashing the watercolours with silver and gold. Those approaches produced stunning results, contributing to the gem-like quality of the ten exquisite tipped-in plates with captioned tissue guards.

In 1968, the intrepid George Schaller began a three year study in the vast mountainous and forested regions of Central and Southern Asia, focusing his research on six species of wild sheep and goat – Punjab urial, Persian wild goat, markhor, Himalayan tahr, Nilgiri tahr, and bharal, or blue sheep. The result was this book: the first illustrated and detailed behavioural study of mountain ungulates in the Himalayas.
